Congratulations to Bertrand Maury, former Editor-in-Chief, CNRS Silver Medallist

ESAIM: Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis (ESAIM: M2AN) congratulates former Editor-in-Chief, Bertrand Maury, for his award of a CNRS Silver Medal earlier this year. As co-Editor-in-Chief with Raphaèle Herbin, Université d'Aix-Marseille, Professor Maury helped to oversee the transition of ESAIM: M2AN to open access under the Subscribe to Open model. In 2021, Christian Rohde, University of Stuttgart succeeded him as co-Editor-in-Chief.

Bertrand Maury is a research professor at the Laboratoire de mathématiques d’Orsay (LMO - CNRS/Université Paris-Saclay) and an associate professor of mathematics at ENS - PSL. “Bertrand Maury: Mathematising Reality”, a recent ‘Researcher Portrait’ from the Université Paris-Saclay, describes Professor Maury as “A specialist in the mathematical and numerical modelling of complex phenomena, Bertrand Maury’s work results in very practical applications ranging from particle flows to the movement of crowds.”

For a flavour of his work in the journal ESAIM: M2AN, read “A discrete contact model for crowd motion” co-authored with Juliette Venel or “Modeling of the oxygen transfer in the respiratory process” with Sébastien Martin. These articles are available for all to read in free access.

Regarding the 2022 CNRS Silver Medal, he commented “It was undoubtedly awarded to me in recognition of a specific way of working: never hesitating to take the time to reach out to other subjects, to build bridges between disciplines, to accept failure and sometimes not to publish.” Our congratulations once again on a wonderful achievement.
